I agree with most of them, although I might not carry any flash on an extensive photo trip. Plan not only for interesting events that may provide photo ops, but try to avoid certain times and places. The first day of deer season in some areas is a total madhouse. Major athletic and other events can tie up hotel rooms. Knowing of more places to go and things to do than time permits lets one make changes as weather and other factors dictate. Carry good maps. I used to sometimes spend as much time researching ports-of-call in the Navy as I had time ashore. Then those rare hours of liberty could be efficiently utilized.

Well, I'm already doing 12 of the 20--not bad, but I could be doing better! Very useful information--thanks for sharing it, Bill!!
