Another thing that may help film users if and when the contests start again might be to have a list of future contests.* For Example:

This Month, November 1st - 30th "Portrait with Artificial Lighting"

UP COMMING MONTHLY CONTEST THEMES
1. December 1st - 31st* "Holiday Lights"
2. January 1st - January 31st "Winter Activities"
3. February 1st - 28th "Love"
4. March 1st - March 31st "Open"

Barbara and I "go both ways" too, and film processing here isn't as fast as it used to be.* Not long ago (3-4 months maybe) you could get 'next day' slide processing.* Now it takes a week because they send the roll to Vancouver.* Print films are not a problem, there are still one-hour photo labs around but slides, which is all we shoot in the way of film, can take over a week.*

Barbara and I like the idea of the photo contests and are somewhat saddened to see them fade away.* Maybe, the photo contests could be brought back and be run on a monthly basis instead of weekly to allow for this film processing time lag and to not over-saturate the level of interest among members in participating in the contest?* Just a suggestion.* It would also allow for Rookie's idea to be used, at least, occasionally.

Yes please! Please post your feedback and ideas here before midnight on Friday, November 24, 2006

We would like to start the contests on December 1st so that will give us a week to finalize the details.

Thank you!
I'm really excited about this! How about you?

1. I like the anonymous entry idea put forward by Paul. This my be more complex than what you are after, but what the heck, we're just brainstorming here... I think an open poll with all members including participants would work. Further, since we all learn from each other in varying degrees, I would like to see the voting broken down into four categories - (1) Creativity, (2) Composition, (3) Technical, (4) Aesthetics. Each category would have a rating that would result in an overall average score. By doing this way, the contest could also be used as a great learning tool.

2. By all means old work should be allowed. The only exception would a photograph already posted in the gallery to maintain anonymity.

3. Monthly would give more opportunity to those with limited time to get out and shoot & process.

4. Although I'm sure you two have plenty of great ideas for themes, by getting input, you may receive ideas that you may have overlooked.

5. Maximum of 3 entries. Minimum of 3 contestants to hold the contest for the month. That would give you at minimum 3 photographs and a possibility of 9 photographs.

6. Anything goes. No one should be forced to leave tools in the toolbox. After all, some of these tools are expensive and difficult to master. Allow folks to use their skills behind the camera and in the darkroom (be it digital or traditional). Also, it would be very difficult to regulate a limited amount of processing. After all, "too much" or 'limited" are very subjective terms. The votes will decide this issue.

7. None, other than I think this is a great idea.

A question rather than a suggestion: I like the idea of anonymity. That's how it's done at our photo club's monthly photo submission judging. If we decide to go this route, how would submissions be made anonymously to the contests? Would we e-mail them to someone who would then post the images?

If we do decide to go this route then yes, you would e-mail your photo to myself or AJazzyone and we would post them.
