It's 3 below zero and breezy, but this little guy is scurrying about looking for a meal. I caught him in a rare moment of rest.

Poor little guy looks cold! You must have been pretty cold too--at least he was running around which would help keep him warm.

You captured him in a really nice pose. How close were you to him? I'm guessing pretty close because the DOF looks really shallow. Looks like the camera focused on his shoulder and because of the shallow DOF, his face isn't as sharp as it could be. I'm no expert on photographing animals, especially ones that scurry around, but it's recommended focusing on the eye because, visually, it's the most important part of the image for this type of shot. You could also increase the iso so you could use a smaller aperture to increase the DOF a bit. Having said that, this is a terrific capture and certainly better than any I could do. Love the color and the OOF background is terrific.

Actually I was inside the house, upstairs in my bedroom. I had to open the window very carefully to avoid scaring him. He was about 10 to 15 feet from me. You are right about the softness. Maybe I'll try again. Thanks for the comments.
