I took this shot on January 27th, 2007 on a snowshoe hike that I went on in Kananaskis. It was a beautiful winter day with the temperature hovering between -10C an -15C. I used to use RSP to convert my raw files but now I have to use ACR in Photoshop because RSP doesn't support my Canon Rebel XTi. I'm still new to this so it was a bit of a struggle to get what I wanted out of this.

I would really appreciate any and all feedback on both the creative and technical aspects in this shot. Not only was I using software I'm not too familiar with, the day I shot this I was having a hard time "seeing" interesting compositions. Just one of those days I guess.

Very nice. What or who made those footprints?

Another beautiful capture. I really like that you included that little tree and its long shadow in the foreground--a wonderful contrast in size when compared to the massive mountains in the distance, and it adds a nice sense of depth to the image.

Ned, Barbara, and Todd - thank you for the comments!
The tracks in the snow are from someone (not me) snowshoeing there. There were many people there that day and tracks everywhere.
Todd, I like the XTi so far. I can't comment on the difference in image quality because I now use different RAW conversion software. The camera is small and light - I like that in a hiking camera. What I miss most is the wheel on the back of the camera. The XTi only has buttons and they're not as convenient.

Tom,
There is a lot to like in this shot but the subtle, critical element is the little tree in the right corner casting its shadow.....balance & scale. Great capture.
