As much of an albatross as that old house was, it had GREAT light, no matter where you were. And if you've got a southwest-facing window with an afghan-covered steam radiator in front of it, you're bound to find a cat there.

Betsy basks here in the late-afternoon sunlight. A remarkably sharp scan from my Canon 8000F flatbed; I never printed this negative because this was one of those rolls that I forgot to turn the time/date stamp OFF. (Don't ask how many frames I ruined with that thing!)

Great shot. DoF, tones, lighting, composition all are terrific. I love how Betsy's eyes seem to glow from amongst her dark fur. A wonderful available light capture.

Thanks, Barbara. That window and radiator was the setting for dozens of cat pictures during our years there. The room this was taken in had five windows; one facing south (but was always shaded from two large trees ) and two each facing east and west, both unobstructed. This was taken in January, in the afternoon, so the sun's angle was long and low.
That blur in the upper right is a bit of the curtain: white muslin draped down from the ceiling to the floor and made not only a cozy tent for the cats, but acted as a soft reflector for me.
