Caught this scene last night. Guesstimated exposure and "walked" it down to these 2 exposures, one a 2 sec and the other a 4 sec. Both were taken with a Canon 20D, 17-85mm @ 44mm, ISO 800, f8.

More exposure causes even more overexposure on the moon, less causes the scene to go too dark. Any slower causes too much blur in the clouds. Quick clone out of lens flare due to moon.

I like cloud position in 4 sec and better lighting on stack but moon is more overexposed.

Which do you prefer?

I think I prefer this version, also. I definately like how the shorter shutter speed captured the smoke in this one. The shorter exposure reveals less detail in the area below the smokestack, the net effect being that it simplifies the composition--focusing attention on the smokestack, smoke and moon. Terrific color. Well seen and captured, Russ.
