This is nice, i find the Binoculars (?) a bit distracting though. What settings gave your snow the correct color??

I overexposed by one stop from the metered value. I don't have the exif here since the computer I am using now doesn't show the exif data (no photoshop and the exif data was stripped from the file)

bart, using a custom white balance, auto white balance or even cloudy day white balance would have given the snow the correct color... white balance can be found in the menu under shooting menu for the d70.
nice capture, but i'll finish my comment in the critique gallery..

Thanks beth, We are covered with the white (?) stuff here today, so i am planning to "gird my loins", and go outside to try doing a cutom white balance on it.
I'll take a bunch of shots using different WB and see what happens.

I really like this shot. I like the contrast of the cold enviroment with the emotionally "warm" embrace of the couple.
I also like the color and brightness of their jackets. It adds life to the scene. I hate it when I go out into nature to take picture with people in it and they wear dull colors like brown or gray. They blend into the background and the picture lacks that "fire".

Tom has said it so well, that I'll just add my ditto. Very nice image, Paul. I like the shallow DOF you used for this and how it emphasizes the cozy snuggle of the couple in this wintery scene. Oh, and I like the binoculars--adds to the story you're telling.

This looks familiar. Is this Western NY? Great shot, I like the vantage point you took it from to include the lovers and the falls below.
