i find the white petals distracting, but i like the detail you captured in the center.

Very pretty colors and nice composition. Image seems soft, was that intentional? I see that you shot this handheld. With macro shots, the DOF is very shallow even at the smallest apertures. For this kind of photo, it would be best to use a tripod and try using a smaller aperture--does your camera have a depth of field preview button to check how much of the image is in focus and then you could adjust the aperture to get the degree of DOF you desire. Shooting parallel to the blossom as you have done here will also ensure that more of the flower is in focus than if the same blossom were shot at an angle. The tight framing creates an almost abstract look which I like.

The softness really bothers me here. You should always use a tripod for macro work.

Thank you all for your comments. My camera doesn't have the DOF preview - at least not that I know of. My film SLR had that, and I used it a lot. But my digital has less features, and I agree that I need to use a tripod for macro work. Again, thank you for looking.
