Hi Val,
I like both these images. What is the name of the river? Is Moscow lit up now in preparation for Christmas?

Hi Suzanne. You will not believe it but the name of the main river in Moscow is... Moscow. Well, so not to make the situation too complicated it usually is spelled as Moskva. But in Russian spelling there's no difference. We dont have Christmas. At least not 25 of December. Maybe 7th of January. In any case the main celebration is the New Year. And the preparations are in full swing. Thanks for asking and happy Christmas, Suzanne!

Hi Val,
Thanks for both the name of the river and for your Christmas wishes. Now I remember (I think) that you are on a different calendar than we are and Christmas in your country occurs on a different date than ours on 25 December. But we all celebrate new year's on the same date, right?
I hope you have a very Happy New Year.
Suzanne

Suzanne, we are on the same calendar. It's the ruling church (the Russian Orthodox one) due to political (or financial) reasons plays that game and only during the Christmas time. My personal attitude - I find it ridiculous to insist on the outdated calendar. Valerij
