Mt. Rainier NP. Taken from Mazama Ridge immediately east of the Paradise Valley area.

T-shirt & shorts weather.....at least for a couple of hours, then heavy clouds and a cold storm front.

Is all of that exposed rock a result of the terrible flooding we had back in November? Looks like it just up and washed the topsoil and vegetation completely off parts of the mountain. Let's hope flooding like that doesn't happen again any time soon!

Again, great captures! Are you using a CP filter? If so, I cannot tell. Your colors are very natural and clean!

Bill, all the rock above tree line is and has been that way for eons.....too harsh to grow anything other than lichen. The Nov storm did significant damage, but principally lower on the mountain as waters gathered becoming ferociously powerful. Saw one section of the former Sunshine Point campground scoured out 20-30 ft deep, 100-300 yds from former shoreline, for over 1/2 mile......1,000s of tons swept away. The rocks on the right slough off regularly from a steep face above on Mazama Ridge.

Thanks Russ. I was just curious since I only managed to make it into the park once last Fall. Obviously, after the "flood of the century" in November, it was closed and we left WA in March, before we could catch the reopening. I guess, from what I hear, the entrance into Carbon River is STILL closed, along with a few other parts of the park?

Anyway, once again, great series of photos. But quite honestly, I've come to expect nothing less out of your work. Fantastic job!

Hope to share some exciting news with you soon, and here's wishing you all the best. Wish you could have been on some of my tornado chasing trips this year. You would've had a blast!
