But how much is too much as far as nature photography? Also, are the closer, out-of-focus lines acceptable or terribly distracting?

Reminds me of bursts of fireworks. Nicely composed, captured and pping, Suzanne. The OOF areas don't bother me at all. Beautiful image.

Thanks, Barbara. I'm glad you like the image. I took it on as a challenge because I don't do much plant photography. Then I began to wonder if I had gone overboard with heightening the colour, trying to get more depth, etc. I know that in some contests, I may have been told by some judges that I had changed the image too much for a true nature photo. But that whole area of judging digital nature images is very confusing to me. Personally, I think pping is a great way to clarify an image and bring out some of the subject's qualities that might not otherwise be visible.
