I was walking in the Chinatown shopping district here in downtown Toronto, when I spotted a woman carrying her daughter in a sling on her back as she shopped. I watched them for a few minutes, and finally the woman turned and began to walk in my direction. I panned as they passed and shot about three frames. The woman apparently didn't even notice me, but the little girl heard the sound of the motordrive and peeked at me as they walked by.
For me it is the little girls eye that made the shot.

What a wonderful little slice of life. You are correct, the little girl really make this shot.

I like the way this composed/cropped. Mother and daughter's heads are at the same angle in opposite edges of the frame - it looks very good.

Thumbail look different. Thats why you have to look at all of the pics Ditto above Robert. Your timing is on target. Great story to go with the pic. I like the DOF you have as well. The eye has it....

Thanks for the kind words. This shot was taken a couple of years ago, and for a long time I didn't post it because of issues with the background. Even though the depth of field was fairly shallow, there were enough distracting objects and blown out highlights in it to cause visual problems. This weekend I scanned the image and was fussing with it trying to decide whether I should work on the background to blur and tone down the distractions, or simply crop it fairly tight.
Then while resizing the image on the screen, it came up in the proportion you see here. I cropped the image to match the view, and my background problems were eliminated. Sometimes the fickle photo gods smile down and you get a break.

Wonderful image, Robert. I'm glad you 'discovered' this gem.
