Hope Cemetery in Barre, Vermont has some of the most wonderful carved granite stones you could imagine. People literally come here for sight-seeing, and I was only one of several here on the 5th of July.

I LOVE this shot! I'm always looking for interesting cemetaries and headstones to photograph. I never even thought of shooting from such a close POV as this--it works really, really well!! Hope you don't mind if I steal your idea and use it next time I find a suitable subject. If we're ever up that way (and I hope to someday) I'll be sure to check out this place. You should put this on PC's Google map so we can find it.
Excellent capture, awesome details, textures and composition. Would probably work well in monochrome.

Thanks, Barb. I just put the location on the map (I hope. It doesn't always work for me.)

This is a huge (about seven feet high) stone, carved from a single block of granite. (Barre is the Granite Capital of the World, one reason why the stones in this cemetery are so amazing. A lot of the residents here are from stonecutting families; Elia's stone was carved by his brother, I believe.)

A close-up was the best way I could see to do this, as just shooting the stone itself made for an underwhelming composition. You may steal any techniques you see fit.

And anyone interested in this particular boneyard should Google 'Hope Cemetery Barre VT' for lots more info.
