This was an exercise in isolating a branch of tree blooms against a background. I used a telephoto and its inherent narrow FOV to do so.

The 4th is against distant vegetation.

Canon 20D, 70-200mm f4L @ 140
ISO100, f4, 1/125 sec

You did a realy good job striking a balance between the highlights and the shadow detail. You also did a great job with the background - seeing it and using it. Lastly, this is a great example of capabilities of the Canon 70-200 f/4....
