The place where this church stands is a doomed place. Once long time ago there was a monastery here. In 19th century a huge church was built, the monastery was taken apart. In 1936 the communists blasted the church and started the construction of the greatest, the biggest, the tallest etc skyscraper in the world with Lenin statue at the top. The statue height was planned to be so big that on an average cloudy day only Lenin’s shoe’d be visible. The construction was not successful. Later there was an open air swimming pool at the place. When I was a kid I used to go there. It was fun using it in the coldest winter. In the 90-s the swimming pool was deconstructed and that shining pompous church was built.

Thanks for sharing the history of this site--really interesting. This is another terrific composition--I like how the railing and patterns in the brick walkway pull me into the image and right to the church. This stitching software is amazing!! Only nit I have is the blown out sun--I do like the inclusion of the curving bit of railing and the direction of long shadows so my only suggestion would be to shoot this again later in the year when the sun is higher in the sky and could be excluded from the frame. The shadows created by the ornate fence/railing are beautiful--wonderful subjects themselves.
