your channels were clipped. this means that a single channel is overexposed on the histogram. to find out which one look in the channels palette in photoshop. you may notice that the red channel happens to have a very white flower on it, no detail in the whites and that red/orange happens to be the color that is missing the details (see the connection?).
if you want to fix it then there are several ways, sometimes just desaturating the color thats blown out works (use hue/sat and change it from master to a specific color), i doubt that will here.
my favorite is to use the channel mixer adjustment layer (if you don't have adjustment layers then duplicate the background layer and run channel mixer on that). you have to check the monochrome box, then adjust the sliders so that you have a nice exposure and detail on the flower. click ok (yes, its b&w at this point, thats how its supposed to be). then set that layer to luminosity. the color should come back at this point and you should have detail in the flower. you can decrease the opacity of this layer to what looks good to you. if you don't like how the greens are changed then you can mask them out using an inversed red channel as a mask.

do you mind if i play with the image?
the channel mixer thing should have worked. the fun thing with channels, if all three channels are completely blown then the area in the image will be pure white, since the flower is a color then it tells me that at least one of the channels has good detail in it. what values were you using in the channel mixer? red should have been set to 0 since thats probably the channel thats blown.
a way to prevent this is to shoot in soft light instead of harsh light. very sunny days are bad for macros. if you do want to shoot on a sunny day then try using an umbrella to shade the flower from the light.
